Acceptable, but consider whether Alabama resident and nonresident would be more precise.

Interdisciplinary

International Honors Program, IHP

IHP is acceptable in all contexts as a second reference for International Honors Program.

Interim Program, Interim term

Interim is an acceptable short form for Interim Program or Interim term.

Internet, internet, Internet2

Use Internet when referring to the worldwide network of computers and servers using telephone lines to transfer information. Use internet when referring generally to a network of connected networks. Use Internet2 when referring to the network of computers and applications developed by some 140 universities with corporate partners in 1996.

Internet addresses

See e-mail and Web addresses.

Internet protocols

Some common Internet protocols are FTP, HTTP, POP, PPP, SMTP, TCP/IP. They should be uppercase in running text.

For clarity if necessary and when space permits, include such protocols in Web addresses, using lowercase, the colon, and two forward slashes: e.g., http://domain.org.

Internet service provider, ISP

intranet

An organization's private network of computers.

IS

An acceptable abbreviation for information systems or information services.

italics

See titles of works for examples of titles that should be italicized.
